Silent Hill 2 Patch 1.07 Hits PS5 and PS5 Pro, and Konami Is Already Investigating It

Konami has released Silent Hill 2 patch 1.07 for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro versions of Bloober Team's remake, a performance-focused update that touches both Quality and Performance modes. Within hours of shipping it, the publisher confirmed it is investigating fresh Performance Mode problems that players hit after installing it.

No equivalent update was announced for the PC or Xbox Series X and Series S versions. This one is a PlayStation-only release, and if you play the remake anywhere else, nothing has changed for you today.

What's in Silent Hill 2 patch 1.07

The official notes are short and entirely technical — there is no new content, no story addition and no difficulty change. Konami lists the following:

• Improved game performance in both Performance and Quality modes
• Improved the visuals of the fog
• Fixed visual glitches on various assets
• Fixed certain visual artifacts that may occur while moving
• Improved overall visual quality

Konami's own announcement also singles out shadow flickering and ghosting as targets. The fog work is the line most likely to matter in practice: fog is not set dressing in this game, it is the rendering technique the original 2001 release used to hide draw distance, and the remake leans on it constantly for atmosphere and for masking what is off-screen.

The Performance Mode problem Konami has acknowledged

Shortly after the patch went out, Konami said publicly that it is aware of issues affecting Performance Mode on both PS5 and PS5 Pro following patch 1.07, and that it is looking into solutions. No fix timeline and no follow-up version number have been given.

Players and technical write-ups have pointed at black levels in Performance Mode specifically — dark areas rendering as flat, detail-free black rather than the graded shadow the game shipped with. Konami has not confirmed that particular symptom, only that Performance Mode is affected. Treat the exact cause as unconfirmed until the publisher says more.

If the mode looks wrong to you now, Quality mode is unaffected by the acknowledgement and is the safer setting until a follow-up patch lands.

Why the PS5 Pro version keeps getting patched

The remake launched on 8 October 2024 for PS5 and PC, arriving on Xbox Series X and Series S a year later in October 2025. It sold over a million copies in its first four days and had passed 2.5 million by that Xbox launch, against a Top Critic Average of 87 on OpenCritic.

The PS5 Pro has been the sore spot throughout. At launch the Pro version shipped with upscaling artefacts — shimmering and unstable reflections — that made Sony's most expensive console a worse place to play than the base PS5, an inversion that has followed the game for close to two years. A November 2024 patch changed the approach, and in November 2025 Konami said a full PS5 Pro update was still in development. Patch 1.07 arrives in that long tail of remediation work, which is also why a regression in it stings more than it normally would.

How to install it, and how to roll the dice safely

Patch 1.07 downloads automatically for anyone with the game installed and automatic updates enabled. To force it, highlight Silent Hill 2 on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button on the DualSense and choose to check for an update from the drop-down menu.

There is no supported way to decline or revert a console patch once it is applied, so if Performance Mode matters more to you than the visual fixes, the practical move is to hold off on manually pulling the update and wait for Konami's next one.
