Modern Warfare 4 Inner Circuit M4 Blueprint Only Looks Green on Xbox
Activision has added an Xbox-only pre-order bonus to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and the Modern Warfare 4 Inner Circuit blueprint comes with a catch that is unusual even by Call of Duty standards: the M4 only wears its translucent green paint job on Xbox hardware. Pre-order on PlayStation 5, Steam, Battle.net or Nintendo Switch 2 and you still get the blueprint, but you see a plain military finish instead.
The blueprint was announced on Xbox Wire on 9 September and marks 25 years of Xbox, borrowing the smoked-green look of the original 2001 console. Reporting the following day confirmed the restriction is deliberate rather than a bug.

What the Modern Warfare 4 Inner Circuit blueprint actually looks like
Inner Circuit is an M4 assault rifle blueprint. On an Xbox console the receiver is finished in translucent green with visible internals, the same design language Microsoft used for the original Xbox's jewel logo and its later see-through hardware. Activision's own wording is blunt about who gets to see it: the blueprint "will only show in the custom design for those on Xbox platforms," and other platforms "will receive and see all players with the M4 blueprint without the green design scheme."
That last clause is the part worth reading twice. It is not only that a PS5 player cannot earn the green version — a PS5 player standing next to an Xbox player carrying Inner Circuit will not see the green version either. Everyone off Xbox sees an alternate mil-spec treatment on the same weapon.
Attachments and stats are unchanged. Inner Circuit is a cosmetic layer over the M4, so nobody is being handed a competitive edge here, whatever their platform.
Which platforms get the green version
- Xbox Series X and Series S — full translucent green design.
- Xbox on PC (Microsoft Store) — counts as an Xbox platform under Activision's wording.
- PlayStation 5 — blueprint yes, green design no.
- Steam and Battle.net — blueprint yes, green design no.
- Nintendo Switch 2 — blueprint yes, green design no.
Modern Warfare 4 is not coming to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One at all, so last-generation owners are out of the conversation. Switch 2 pre-orders opened on 26 August, later than the other platforms, which is the same pattern the beta followed — we covered the staggered rollout when the Modern Warfare 4 beta got a 12-hour extension.
How to get it, and what the rest of the pre-order includes
Inner Circuit is tied to pre-ordering the game. The broader pre-order package on the Microsoft Store lists Campaign Early Access from 16 October with any digital edition, early access to the Open Beta, and the Hunter Killer Operator Skin plus the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack for immediate use in Black Ops 7 and Warzone. Those instant unlocks carry into Modern Warfare 4 at launch, and the redemption window for the Operator skin runs to 23 October 2027.
Pricing on the Microsoft Store is $69.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Vault Edition, with a $30.00 upgrade path if you buy standard first. The Vault Edition bundles the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, the Signature Weapon Collection, one season of BlackCell with the Battle Pass, 20 tier skips, 1,100 CoD Points, and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. Owners of a previous Call of Duty release on the same Xbox account can claim 10% off the Vault Edition, valid until 23 October 2026. Prices in other regions vary by storefront.
When Modern Warfare 4 launches
Modern Warfare 4 releases on 23 October 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. Activision publishes, with Treyarch and Raven credited as developers on the Microsoft Store listing. The campaign moves from the Korean Peninsula to New York, Paris and Mumbai, multiplayer ships with 12 new 6v6 maps on day one, and DMZ returns as an extraction mode.
One thing to plan around if you subscribe: the store listing states plainly that Modern Warfare 4 is not available with Game Pass at launch. Online multiplayer still needs a Game Pass Essential subscription on Xbox, and cloud streaming requires Essential, Premium or Ultimate plus a copy of the game. If you were waiting for it to appear in a monthly wave, it will not — September's Game Pass additions led with Black Ops Cold War instead.
Season 06 of Black Ops 7 and Warzone also lands before Modern Warfare 4 does, so the instant unlocks have somewhere to go in the meantime. The Haunting starts on 17 September and runs only four weeks, ending shortly before launch day.
The 25-year framing is not a one-off, either. Microsoft has a hardware side to the anniversary, and an anniversary Xbox Series X25 has already leaked at €899.99. On phones, the shooter conversation is a separate market entirely — our round-up of the best FPS games on Android covers what actually plays well on a touchscreen.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get the Inner Circuit M4 blueprint in Modern Warfare 4?
It is a pre-order bonus for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, announced on 9 September 2026 to mark 25 years of Xbox. Pre-ordering delivers the M4 blueprint, but only Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC display its translucent green design.
Can PS5 players get the green Xbox skin in Modern Warfare 4?
No. Activision says the custom green design shows only on Xbox platforms. PlayStation 5 players receive the M4 blueprint with an alternate military finish, and they also see the plain version on any Xbox player carrying it.
Does the Inner Circuit blueprint give any gameplay advantage?
No. Inner Circuit is a cosmetic blueprint for the M4 assault rifle. The attachments and weapon stats are identical to the version other platforms receive, so the difference is purely visual.
When does Modern Warfare 4 come out and on which platforms?
Modern Warfare 4 launches on 23 October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, Battle.net and the Microsoft Store, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is not releasing on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Pre-ordering any digital edition adds Campaign Early Access from 16 October.
Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass?
Not at launch. The Microsoft Store listing states that Modern Warfare 4 is not available with Game Pass at launch, so you need to buy it. Online multiplayer on Xbox still requires a Game Pass Essential subscription, and cloud streaming needs Essential, Premium or Ultimate plus a copy of the game.
