The two 1TB models are the ones fitted with LPDDR6 memory. Everything below them uses LPDDR5X. That is the detail worth checking before ordering, because Xiaomi spent weeks marketing the 18 Fold as the first phone with the new memory standard, and only the 14,999-yuan model and the ceramic edition actually deliver it. Storage is UFS 4.1 across the range. Several early write-ups listed only four tiers; there are five.

The first foldable on Xiaomi's own silicon

The 18 Fold runs the Xring O3, Xiaomi's in-house 3nm chip, making this the company's first foldable not built on a Qualcomm part. The configuration is a 10-core CPU peaking at 4.35GHz, a 16-core GPU, and a neural processor Xiaomi rates at 200 TOPS. Against the previous generation, Xiaomi claims roughly 60% more multi-core CPU performance and 85% more GPU performance, with CPU power draw down 25% and GPU power draw down 64%.

Those are manufacturer figures from the launch presentation, not independent benchmarks, and sustained thermal behaviour in a 5.02mm-thick chassis is the part no spec sheet answers. The phone ships on HyperOS 4.

A narrower foldable than the competition

Xiaomi is calling the shape a mid-fold, and the numbers explain why. The outer screen is 5.38 inches at 1712x1168, and the inner screen is 7.58 inches at 2364x1672 — smaller and squarer than the roughly 8-inch inner panels that Samsung and Honor have been shipping. Both displays run at 120Hz with LTPO and peak at 4,000 nits.

Folded, the 18 Fold is 10.68mm thick; open, it is 5.02mm. It weighs 219g. The redesigned dragon-bone hinge uses a water-drop profile with a three-stage linkage, and the inner panel sits under a double-layer ultra-thin glass stack.

Cameras and battery

The rear array is Leica-tuned: a 200MP main sensor on a 1/1.56-inch chip at f/1.7, a 50MP ultrawide at f/2.4, and a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom and stabilisation. Video tops out at 4K60 or 8K24. The selfie camera is 16MP.

Battery capacity is 6,000mAh using a silicon-carbon cell, charging at 67W wired and 50W wireless. That is a large cell for a foldable this thin, and it is the specification that most directly separates the 18 Fold from thinner rivals that settled for less capacity.

Who can actually buy one

China, and only China. Xiaomi announced no other markets and gave no timing for one, which follows the pattern of its recent foldables — the MIX Fold line never left the mainland either. Buyers elsewhere are looking at grey-market imports without local warranty support, and at a phone whose software and services are built for Chinese app stores.

The launch lands two days before Apple's September 9 event, and in a week when foldables are arriving from several directions at once — Huawei showed its second-generation tri-fold earlier in the day.
