No roguelike is free on the Epic Games Store right now. This week's free game is Sorry We're Closed, a horror game. Next Thursday brings Flotsam and Idle Champions. Neither one is a roguelike.

Don't leave yet. Epic has given away 57 roguelikes and roguelites since December 2018. That is 52 different games. Another 16 are free all the time, and Epic's Android app has a free game each week. This page lists them all and shows how to catch the next one.

Quick answer

  • Free this week: Sorry We're Closed (horror). It ends Thursday, November 5, at 11 a.m. Eastern. Not a roguelike.
  • Next Thursday (Nov 5 to 12): Flotsam and Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms. No roguelike.
  • Last roguelike giveaway: Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles. It ended October 1. Five weekly drops have passed without one.
  • Since December 2018: 57 giveaways, 52 different games. About 1 free game in 12 was a roguelike. Five came back for a second round.
  • 2026 so far: 10 games in 9 of 44 weeks, worth $181.90 at Steam list prices.
  • Never free in the lists we checked: Hades, Hades II, Slay the Spire, Risk of Rain 2, The Binding of Isaac and Balatro.
  • Free all the time: 16 games sit under Epic's Free + Rogue-Lite filter. 8 call themselves roguelikes. 4 are crypto games.
  • On Android: Epic's app gives away a free game every Thursday. Dead Cells and ScourgeBringer were free there in late 2025.
  • Next best chance: Epic gave away free games every day in late December 2024 and 2025. Four of them in 2024 were roguelikes.

Last checked: November 1, 2026. Epic swaps its free games every Thursday at 11 a.m. Eastern, so look again before you plan around this list.

What is free on Epic right now?

Here is what Epic's Free Games page shows on November 1, 2026:

WhenGameRoguelike?
Now, until Thu Nov 5 at 11 a.m. ETSorry We're Closed
Survival horror
No
Thu Nov 5 to Nov 12Flotsam
City builder and survival game
No
Thu Nov 5 to Nov 12Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms
Idle strategy
No
After Nov 12Not on Epic's page yetUnknown

Why this matters:

  • The dry spell: Five weekly drops in a row have had no roguelike. Next Thursday would make six.
  • It won't last: This summer went the other way. Four roguelike weeks in a row. More on that below.
  • What to do now: Claim Sorry We're Closed only if you like horror. Then jump to the free-all-the-time list.

Mix-ups to ignore

  • Some search answers list Citizen Sleeper and Calico as free roguelikes. Steam doesn't tag either one that way, and both free windows are over (June 25 and June 4).
  • Some answers say a game is free "right now" when the week has ended. Check the date, then check Epic's page.

How often does Epic give away roguelikes? (2026)

Epic doesn't keep a public list of past giveaways. So we rebuilt it from the weekly lists. Then we checked each game's top tags on Steam and marked every week where a roguelike or roguelite was free.

Grid of Epic's 44 weekly free-game drops in 2026, with 9 gold squares for roguelike weeks and the last 5 squares empty
Each square is one Thursday drop, from January 1 to October 29, 2026. Gold means a roguelike was free that week.

What the grid shows:

  • 9 of 44 weeks had a roguelike. That is about 1 Thursday in 5.
  • It comes in streaks. Only 1 of the first 21 weeks had one (March 5). Then 8 of the next 23 did.
  • The best runs: four weeks in a row from May 28 to June 18, then three in a row from September 10 to 24.
  • Since October 1: five drops, zero roguelikes.

What it means for you:

  • Don't expect one every week.
  • Do expect them to bunch up. A quiet month has not meant they stopped.
  • Past streaks don't promise future ones. Epic doesn't announce giveaways far ahead.

The 10 roguelikes Epic gave away in 2026

Each game was free for one week, Thursday to Thursday. If you claimed it, it is yours to keep. Scores and prices come from Steam's US store on November 1, 2026. A deckbuilder is a card game where you build your deck as you play.

Not found means we found no exact-title match on Google Play (US). It does not prove there is no Android version.

What stands out:

  • The value: All 10 add up to $181.90 at Steam list prices.
  • The scores: The ten average about 90% positive on Steam. Shogun Showdown is highest at 97%. Astral Ascent and Turnip Boy Robs a Bank follow at 95%.
  • The weakest: Rogue Waters at 75% (Mostly Positive). Fine to try, but it is the one to check first.
  • The fast one: Sol Cesto came out on Steam on April 10, 2026. It was free on Epic about 16 weeks later.

Every roguelike Epic has given away (Dec 2018 to Oct 2026)

Epic's weekly lists run back to its first giveaway in December 2018. We checked every game on them against Steam's top tags. Here is the count by year.

Bar chart of roguelikes Epic gave away free by year: 5 in 2019, 9 in 2020, 9 in 2021, 8 in 2022, 5 in 2023, 8 in 2024, 3 in 2025 and 10 in 2026 so far
57 roguelike and roguelite giveaways from December 2018 to October 2026. 2026 counts January to October.

What the numbers say:

  • 57 giveaways, 52 different games. About 1 free game in 12 was a roguelike or roguelite.
  • 2026 is the busiest year with 10 by October. 2020 and 2021 had 9 each. 2025 was the quietest with 3.
  • Five games came back: Enter the Gungeon, City of Brass, For The King, Loop Hero and Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles were each free twice. So a miss is not always final.
  • Late December is a good bet. 11 of the 57 landed between December 17 and 31. December 2024 alone had four in 12 days.

Was it ever free on Epic? 12 that were, and 6 that never were

These are the roguelikes people ask about most. The first table is every one that was free on Epic for PC.

Backpack HeroJul 3 to 10, 2025
Astral AscentSep 10 to 17, 2026
Shogun ShowdownSep 17 to 24, 2026

Not in any weekly list we checked: Hades, Hades II, Slay the Spire, Risk of Rain 2, The Binding of Isaac and Balatro. Dead Cells is not in the PC lists either, but it was free on Epic's Android store in December 2025.

Not in the lists is not a promise. Epic can still run a game later, and a list can miss a one-day or regional deal.

Roguelikes that are free all the time

Giveaways end. Free-to-play games don't. Here is how to list them yourself:

  1. Open Epic's Browse page with Free and Rogue-Lite already on.
  2. Or open Browse, tick Price: Free, then Genre: Rogue-Lite.
  3. Sort by New Release to see the newest first.

Epic has no "Roguelike" tag. It only has Rogue-Lite, and it is loose. On November 1, 2026, the filter showed 16 games. We read each one's Epic page. Here is how they split.

8 that call themselves roguelikes

  • Terminull Brigade: an action roguelike with different "Rogueteers" and builds. Free to play. Also on Steam.
  • Morimens: a roguelite card game with a Cthulhu theme. Free to play. Also on Steam.
  • Ivorfall: a steampunk twin-stick shooter roguelike. Also free on Steam.
  • Shrimp.io: a "shrimp-based bullet heaven." Pick one of three upgrades each level. Also free on Steam.
  • Nerth Downfall: a roguelike deck builder with auto-battle fights.
  • Wanderers: a sci-fi rogue-lite with cards and deck building.
  • Apeiron: a roguelite mixed with a god game.
  • Eternal League: a fast roguelike RPG that scores your progress by session.

4 are crypto or NFT games

  • Suuuiplash: a roguelike built on the Sui blockchain, with NFT characters.
  • Etherscape: a rogue-lite RPG where items can be owned and traded as NFTs.
  • Gem Fighter: a retro space shooter with crypto rewards.
  • The Machines Arena: a hero shooter on the Ronin network with digital collectibles.

Free to download is not the same as free of wallets. Read the page before you install.

4 are not roguelikes by their own pages

  • Möbius Fish: an endless runner with tower defense.
  • Masks of the Void: Infinity: endless wave survival.
  • Carpool: Attack of the Disco Mob: driving and blasting.
  • Hailot: a "random card defense" game.

We have not played any of these 16. Treat the first group as a shortlist, not a recommendation.

Check one in 5 minutes

  1. Read the first line of the Epic page. Does it say roguelike, roguelite, deck builder, or "every run"?
  2. Search the name on Steam. A score of 80% or more is a good sign. No Steam page at all means be careful.
  3. Scan for crypto words. Skip anything with NFT, token, or wallet in the pitch, unless you want that.
  4. Play 20 minutes. Uninstall it if it isn't fun.

Epic's free roguelikes on Android

This part is for phone players. Epic says its app is available around the world on Android. A new free game lands there every Thursday, just like on PC.

Roguelikes that were free on Epic's mobile store

  • Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee: one of the first mobile giveaways, free until February 20, 2025. Now $7.49 on Google Play, 4.24 stars from 3,343 ratings.
  • Loop Hero: free until May 1, 2025. On Google Play today it is free to install, with in-app purchases. 4.7 stars from 28,782 ratings.
  • ScourgeBringer: free November 13 to 20, 2025. A fast roguelite platformer. Now $6.99 on Google Play, 4.82 stars from 11,766 ratings.
  • Dead Cells: free December 11 to 18, 2025. Now $8.49 on Google Play, 4.8 stars from 135,916 ratings. Optional extras cost $0.49 to $7.99.

These are the four we could confirm. Prices and ratings are from Google Play (US) on November 1, 2026.

2026 giveaways you can also get on Android

  • Turnip Boy Robs a Bank: $3.00 on Google Play. 4.67 stars from 870 ratings. It costs $14.99 on Steam.
  • Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles: $9.99. 3.81 stars from 293 ratings. That is lower than its 94% on Steam, so read the reviews.
  • Ouroboros King Chess Roguelike: the Android name for The Ouroboros King. The free demo has 1 of 3 acts. One purchase unlocks the rest. 3.73 stars from 481 ratings.
  • Crunchyroll: Shogun Showdown: only for Crunchyroll Mega and Ultimate Fan members. 1.89 stars from 352 ratings.

How to claim a free game on Android

  1. On your phone, open epicgames.com. Tap Install in the top right, then Install on Android.
  2. A security prompt appears, because the app comes from Epic's site and not Google Play. Open Settings, allow the install, then tap Install.
  3. Open the app and sign in to your Epic account.
  4. Find this week's free game in the app.
  5. Tap Install. The game is claimed the moment the install starts.
  6. Want it for later? Stop the install by tapping the square. The game stays on your account.

Epic's own steps: install the app and redeem a free game. Use Epic's site for the app. Don't grab an "Epic APK" from a random page.

A 60-second Thursday routine

Epic changes its PC free games every Thursday at 11 a.m. Eastern. That is 8 a.m. Pacific. Here is the routine that catches the next roguelike:

  1. Set a Thursday alarm for 11 a.m. Eastern. The Free Games page shows the new game right then.
  2. Read the one-line pitch. Look for roguelike, roguelite, deck builder, or "every run is different."
  3. Open the Steam page. Check the tags and the score. The ten from 2026 averaged about 90%.
  4. Claim it if you might play it. The window is one week. After that, the game goes back to full price.
  5. Play 20 minutes before you decide. A free game still costs your time.

In late December, check every day. Epic ran daily free games in December 2024 and December 2025, and roguelikes were part of both.

Roguelike or roguelite? The 30-second version

  • Roguelike: turns, a grid, and new levels every run. If you die, you start from zero. Read the Berlin Interpretation for the strict rules.
  • Roguelite: like a roguelike, but you keep some upgrades after you die. Dead Cells is the famous one.
  • Epic's tag: one label, Rogue-Lite, for both. So this page counts both.

Want the full split? See our best roguelike games and best roguelite games guides.

How we checked this page

We didn't play every game here. Here is what we did check, all on November 1, 2026:

  • This week and next: Epic's Free Games page and Epic's own promotions feed.
  • The history: weekly lists of every Epic PC giveaway from December 2018 to October 2026, about 680 games. A game counts as a roguelike when Steam lists Roguelike, Roguelite, Roguelike Deckbuilder or Action Roguelike among its top five tags. We matched titles to Steam by name and read the tags from each store page.
  • Second sources: we confirmed all nine roguelike weeks of 2026, the December 2024 holiday games, and the 2019 to 2022 dates for Enter the Gungeon, City of Brass, Nuclear Throne and Rogue Legacy.
  • Borderline games: card adventures such as Foretales, Echo Generation 2 and TerraScape did not count, because Steam doesn't tag them as roguelikes. A stricter or looser rule would move the totals a little.
  • Scores and prices: Steam's US store pages. Some pages show English reviews only, so treat the scores as close, not exact.
  • Android: Google Play (US) searched by exact title, plus Epic's help pages.
  • Free all the time: Epic's Browse page with Free and Rogue-Lite on, then each game's Epic page. Epic's catalog can differ by country.

Prices and scores move. Spot a mistake? Tell us.

Bottom line

No free roguelike this week. That is normal. It was true for 35 of the 44 weeks so far in 2026.

Do this next:

  1. Set a Thursday alarm for 11 a.m. Eastern.
  2. Check your Library. You may own some of the 57 already.
  3. Open the Free + Rogue-Lite list and try one of the 8 tonight.
  4. On Android? Install Epic's app from epicgames.com and claim Thursday's game.
  5. Want a paid pick? Start with our roguelite or roguelike guide.

A roguelike sends you back to zero each time you die. A roguelite lets you keep some upgrades. Epic uses one tag, Rogue-Lite, for both.
