Fairphone Finally Sells a Phone in the US: $650 for the Repairable Fairphone Gen 6+

Aditya Singh

Fairphone is selling a phone directly to US customers for the first time. The Dutch manufacturer, long known for building smartphones you can take apart with a screwdriver, launched the Fairphone Gen 6+ in the US today for $650, available immediately through Fairphone.com and Amazon.

Until now, buying a Fairphone in the US meant importing one through a third-party reseller and hoping it worked with your carrier. The Gen 6+ is fully unlocked out of the box and certified for T-Mobile and AT&T, though it is not certified for Verizon.

What's inside the Gen 6+

The Gen 6+ runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, the first time Fairphone has fitted that much memory into a phone. Storage is 256GB with a microSD slot for more. The 6.31-inch pOLED display runs at 2484 x 1116 with a 120Hz refresh rate and is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

The camera setup pairs a 50-megapixel autofocus main sensor with a 13MP ultra-wide and a 32MP front camera. A 4,415mAh battery charges at 30W. The phone ships with Android 16 and what Fairphone calls a bloatware-free build, and the company is committing to seven years of software updates, running through 2033.

Repairable by design, not by luck

The pitch that separates Fairphone from every other phone at this price is repairability. Fairphone lists 12 user-replaceable components, including the battery, display, both rear cameras, the rear panels, the speaker, and the USB-C port. A replacement battery costs $40 and a replacement display costs $90, both sold directly by Fairphone with no proprietary tools required. The predecessor Fairphone 6 scored a perfect 10 out of 10 from iFixit's repairability index, and the Gen 6+ uses the same modular design.

Fairphone also markets the device around its supply chain: more than 50 percent of the phone's materials by weight are fair-trade or recycled, and the company estimates roughly 30kg of CO2 per device across its lifecycle. Fairphone calls it the only fully e-waste-neutral phone currently sold in the US, meaning it funds the recycling of an equivalent amount of e-waste for every unit sold.

Where it lands against the competition

At $650, the Gen 6+ sits in mid-range territory where it competes on specs with phones that don't ask you to think about repairability at all. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 puts it a tier below flagship silicon, at a moment when Qualcomm has told phone makers its chip prices are rising from September 1 — a cost pressure that is starting to show up across the mid-range Android field, not just at the top with phones like the Pixel 11.

Fairphone is also using the US push to preview its next accessory. Fairbuds 2 wireless earbuds are due in Q4 2026, with a redesigned case and what the company describes as improved battery life and audio over the original Fairbuds.

Buying it now

The Gen 6+ ships in Cobalt Blue, Black, and Green, weighs 191 grams, and measures 9.6mm thick. It supports 5G on US bands, NFC, and dual-SIM. Buyers can order today directly from Fairphone.com or through Fairphone's listing on Amazon.com, with no waitlist or import steps required for the first time.
