JioHotstar Launches in the UK, Canada and Singapore Today, From £19.99 a Quarter
JioHotstar launches in the UK, Canada and Singapore today, 2 September, replacing Hotstar in all three markets at £19.99, CA$19.99 and SG$29.98 a quarter. Anyone still using the old Hotstar app loses access the same day, and the fix is to sign in to the JioHotstar app with the same credentials.

What does JioHotstar cost outside India?
Pricing is quarterly or annual in every market, with no monthly tier announced:
- UK — £19.99 a quarter, £69.99 a year
- Canada — CA$19.99 a quarter, CA$49.99 a year
- Singapore — SG$29.98 a quarter, SG$69.98 a year
The annual plans are the value play in two of the three markets. In Canada, CA$49.99 a year works out cheaper than three quarterly renewals. In the UK the annual saving is thinner, and in Singapore the yearly price is close to two and a half quarters.
The gap with India is enormous, and worth naming plainly: subscriptions there start at ₹79 a month and run to ₹2,199 for a year. The international tiers are priced for a different market and a different catalogue.
What happens to your Hotstar account?
Hotstar stops operating in these three countries on the same day the new service goes live. Existing login details carry over to the JioHotstar app, so the account itself survives — but the old app stops being the way in. If you watch on a TV, you will need to install the new app there too, not just on your phone.
Download the JioHotstar app on Android or iOS, sign in with your existing Hotstar credentials, then repeat on your TV. Nothing in the announcement suggests you need to re-purchase a plan you are already paying for.
Is cricket included in the international launch?
No. There is no live sport at launch in the UK, Canada or Singapore, which is the single biggest catch here. Hotstar built its overseas following largely on cricket rights, and those licences are territory-by-territory deals that did not travel with the rebrand. The company has not ruled out adding sport later, but has committed to no date.
What you get instead is entertainment: more than 160,000 hours across 12-plus languages, including English, Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Kannada and Marathi. That covers Hotstar Originals, Indian films, Star-branded live TV channels and reality formats.
What is new in the app itself?
The launch comes with a redesigned discovery and viewing layer built around personalisation and real-time engagement. The clearest example is Bigg Boss: the service carries the franchise across six languages, and viewers in all three new markets can vote live during editions rather than just watch them. That is the kind of feature that only works when the app and the broadcast are in sync, and it is the reason the platform is pitching this as more than a name change.
The service is available on Android and iOS phones and on connected TVs from day one. The US is not part of this wave.
Why does this matter now?
JioHotstar was formed by the 2025 merger of Hotstar and JioCinema, itself a product of the Reliance-Disney joint venture struck in 2024. In India the combined service claims more than 500 million monthly active users. This is the first serious attempt to carry that scale into English-speaking markets under one brand.
For anyone already juggling subscriptions, the calculus is familiar. Prices keep moving — the Apple TV and Peacock bundle rose to $17.99 this week, and libraries keep shifting, with Halo leaving Netflix US on 1 October. New arrivals like Doc season 2 and Fool Night land on schedules set months out, and live sport is increasingly the thing that decides which app you keep, as ESPN Unlimited arriving in the YouTube TV app showed. A service launching without sport is asking to be judged on its library alone.
