Pokemon Champions version 1.2.0 is live, and it opens Ranked Battles to 24 newly eligible Pokemon plus six Mega Evolutions. The update landed with Regulation Set M-C at 02:00 UTC on 9 September, and it applies at the same moment on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android because the game shares one cross-platform ruleset.

What the Pokemon Champions 1.2.0 update adds

The headline additions are the Mega Evolutions. Three are standard forms — Mega Salamence, Mega Golisopod and Mega Baxcalibur — and three are the Z Mega Evolutions the company teased at the World Championships: Mega Absol Z, Mega Garchomp Z and Mega Lucario Z. Mega Golisopod and Mega Baxcalibur are the two drawing the most discussion, because their exclusive abilities were still undisclosed when the update went live.

Alongside them, published roster lists for 1.2.0 name these newly battle-eligible species:

  • Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon
  • Baxcalibur, Salamence and Golisopod in their base forms
  • Persian, Alolan Persian and Perrserker
  • Farfetch'd, Sirfetch'd and Squawkabilly
  • Arboliva, Gogoat, Grapploct and Mabosstiff
  • Indeedee, Mr. Mime, Pincurchin, Swalot, Thievul, Toxtricity and Wigglytuff

Rillaboom is the one competitive players flagged first. It has been a fixture of Video Game Championships doubles for years, and its arrival reshapes the format more than any of the novelty additions. The update also brings new in-game items, fresh avatar customisation options, and three Battle Pass seasons queued up as M-6, M-7 Premium and M-8 Premium.

How long Regulation Set M-C runs

The new ruleset started on 8 September at 7:00 p.m. PDT and ends on 1 December at 5:59 p.m. PST — 9 September at 02:00 UTC to 2 December at 05:59 UTC. That is the window every ranked team gets built inside for the next three months.

Pokemon that were legal in earlier regulation sets stay legal, so this is an expansion rather than a rotation. There are no restricted Pokemon in M-C. Team rules are unchanged: three to six Pokemon in singles, four to six in doubles, no two Pokemon sharing a Pokedex number, no two holding the same item, and only one Mega Evolution per battle no matter how many Mega Stones you pack. Everything is set to level 50 in battle.

Which platforms get it

All of them, simultaneously. Pokemon Champions is a single free-to-start game on Nintendo Switch, iPhone and Android with cross-platform battles, so there is no separate mobile build lagging behind the console version. Because the regulation swap is server-side and stamped in UTC, it flipped at the same instant everywhere — 7:30 a.m. IST in India, 7 p.m. on 8 September on the US west coast.

The company has not published a download size for 1.2.0 on either Switch or mobile, and no maintenance window was announced. If your client is still on 1.1.0, the store update is what unlocks the new roster.

What this changes for ranked players

Teams built for Regulation Set M-B remain valid, since nothing was removed, but the six new Mega Evolutions change what those teams have to answer. Anyone laddering seriously has a short runway before the first sanctioned events run under these rules. Our earlier report on the Z Mega Evolutions announcement and the M-C schedule covers what was known before the patch shipped, including the abilities confirmed for Mega Absol Z and Mega Garchomp Z.

For everyone else, the practical step is smaller: update the app, then rebuild around whichever of the 24 additions fits what you already run.

Where Champions sits in the Pokemon lineup

Champions is the competitive pillar of the series rather than a story game, and it has had company on Nintendo hardware this year — Pokemon Pokopia's 2.0.1 patch fixed a Ho-Oh and Lugia loop on Switch 2 the day before this update. On phones, the franchise's seasonal calendar keeps moving too, with the Pokemon GO Harvest Festival running 29 September to 5 October.

If you play Champions on a phone rather than a Switch, the app is comparatively light next to most modern releases, though our list of Android games that run on 2GB of RAM is the better guide if your handset is older. Nintendo's next slate of announcements, meanwhile, is covered in our rundown of the latest Nintendo Direct start time and line-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Pokemon Champions 1.2.0 update add?

Version 1.2.0 opens Ranked Battles to 24 newly eligible Pokemon and six Mega Evolutions: Mega Salamence, Mega Golisopod, Mega Baxcalibur, Mega Absol Z, Mega Garchomp Z and Mega Lucario Z. It also adds new in-game items, avatar customisation options and three queued Battle Pass seasons, M-6, M-7 Premium and M-8 Premium.

When does Regulation Set M-C end in Pokemon Champions?

Regulation Set M-C runs until 1 December 2026 at 5:59 p.m. PST, which is 2 December at 05:59 UTC. It began on 8 September at 7:00 p.m. PDT, or 9 September at 02:00 UTC. Ranked teams have to be legal under this set for the whole three-month window.

Is Pokemon Champions 1.2.0 on Android and iPhone as well as Switch?

Yes. Pokemon Champions is one free-to-start game across Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android with cross-platform battles, and the regulation change is server-side, so all three platforms moved to 1.2.0 rules at the same instant. There is no separate mobile rollout to wait for.

How big is the Pokemon Champions 1.2.0 download?

No download size has been published for 1.2.0 on Switch or on mobile, and no maintenance window was announced ahead of the switchover. Grabbing the update from your platform's store is what unlocks the new roster if your client is still on version 1.1.0.

Do my old teams still work in Regulation Set M-C?

Yes. Pokemon that were eligible under earlier regulation sets remain eligible, and no Pokemon are restricted in M-C, so nothing rotates out. Team rules are unchanged too: three to six Pokemon in singles, four to six in doubles, no duplicate Pokedex numbers or items, and one Mega Evolution per battle.
