Pokemon Pokopia Sales Pass 5 Million on Switch 2 in Just Over Four Months
Pokemon Pokopia sales have passed 5 million units worldwide, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company said in a joint announcement, counting physical and digital copies together. The life sim is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, and it hit the milestone just over four months after launching on 5 March 2026.

There is no version for the original Switch, no PC release and nothing on PlayStation or Xbox. If you want to play it, a Switch 2 is the only way in — which is exactly what makes the number worth looking at closely.
What the Pokemon Pokopia sales figure actually tells us
The interesting part is the pace, and Nintendo's own quarterly reporting fills that in. The company logged 2.41 million copies through the end of its 2026 financial year on 31 March, then a further 1.27 million in the April-to-June quarter, for a running total of 3.68 million as of 30 June 2026.
Getting from there to 5 million means roughly 1.3 million copies in about six weeks — a sharper rate than the game managed across the whole of the spring quarter. A summer sales push and the arrival of paid DLC both sit inside that window, and the two are hard to separate from the outside.
What the announcement does not break out is region, format split or how many of those copies came bundled with anything. Nintendo gave a single global figure and left it there.
How it compares with the rest of the Switch 2 library
Nintendo has shipped 23.68 million Switch 2 consoles as of 30 June 2026. Set the 5 million against that installed base and something close to one in five Switch 2 owners has bought Pokopia — an unusually high attach rate for a game that was neither a launch title nor bundled with hardware.
For scale, here is where Nintendo's other big Switch 2 sellers stood at that same 30 June cut-off:
- Mario Kart World — 15.39 million, though it shipped alongside the console in a bundle, which flatters the total.
- Donkey Kong Bananza — 4.78 million.
- Pokemon Pokopia — 3.68 million at that point, now past 5 million.
The comparison is not quite like for like, because Pokopia's 5 million is a mid-August number and the others are end-of-June figures that have almost certainly moved since. Nintendo updates those quarterly, so the next proper ranking arrives with the company's half-year results rather than today.
The free update and the Expansion Pass
A free software update is live for every player, adding a Dive move that lets your Ditto explore underwater. It costs nothing and does not require the paid DLC.
The paid Expansion Pass is split into three parts:
- Part 1: Bubbly Basin — out now, adding an underwater area and more Pokemon to find.
- Part 2 — due in late 2026, introducing accessories your Pokemon can wear.
- Part 3 — scheduled for 2027, with contents not yet detailed.
Nintendo has not announced a price change or a bundle tied to the milestone, and no free gift has been attached to it. If you are waiting for a discount, nothing has been confirmed.
Why a cosy game is carrying a console
Pokopia casts you as a Ditto rebuilding a run-down stretch of land through crafting and transformation — closer in shape to a building sim than to a monster-battling RPG. That it is outselling more traditional Switch 2 output says something about where the audience currently is, and it lands in a period when the console has otherwise leaned on ports and remasters, from Oblivion Remastered's 61.5GB Switch 2 download to the Minecraft Switch 2 closed beta still in testing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many copies has Pokemon Pokopia sold?
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company say global sales have surpassed 5 million units across physical and digital versions. The game launched on 5 March 2026, so it reached the milestone in just over four months. Nintendo's own quarterly reporting had it at 3.68 million as of 30 June 2026.
Is Pokemon Pokopia on the original Nintendo Switch?
No. Pokopia is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and does not run on the original Switch. There is also no PC, PlayStation or Xbox version, and none has been announced.
Is the Pokemon Pokopia underwater update free?
The software update that adds the Dive move is free for all players and does not require the Expansion Pass. The Bubbly Basin underwater area itself is Part 1 of the paid Expansion Pass, so the free update and the paid DLC are separate things.
When does Pokemon Pokopia Expansion Pass Part 2 release?
Part 2 is scheduled for late 2026 and adds accessories that your Pokemon can wear. Part 3 follows in 2027. Nintendo has not given exact dates for either, only the release windows.
Is Pokemon Pokopia the best-selling Switch 2 game?
No. Mario Kart World is well ahead at 15.39 million as of 30 June 2026, although it was bundled with the console at launch. Pokopia's 5 million does put it above Donkey Kong Bananza's 4.78 million from that same June cut-off, but those figures are from different dates and Nintendo only updates them quarterly.
