Samsung Updates Family Hub Fridges Back to 2021 With Tizen 10 and Gemini AI Vision
Samsung announced today that it will push a Tizen OS 10.0 update to refrigerators and laundry machines it sold as long ago as 2021, with the rollout beginning in phases this month. Family Hub refrigerators from the 2021 to 2025 model years pick up the AI Vision food-recognition system built with Google Gemini, and Bespoke AI washers, dryers and laundry combos from 2024 and 2025 get a rebuilt Bixby that can answer spoken questions about a cycle already running.
The framing matters as much as the features. Samsung is treating a four-year-old fridge as a device that still gets new software, which is the argument it has been making about phones and watches for years and has rarely made about a kitchen.
The refrigerator list runs on cameras, not badges
Eligibility is decided by hardware inside the door. Samsung says the update goes to refrigerators with built-in cameras and AI Vision: the 21.5-inch and 32-inch Family Hub models released between 2021 and 2025, plus select 9-inch Family Hub models from 2025. Those fridges get the version of AI Vision that Samsung first shipped to select Bespoke AI Family Hubs in the United States back in May. It is now heading to more countries. Washers and dryers get a Bixby that answers back
On the laundry side the update covers select Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, Washer and Dryer models released in 2024 and 2025. The headline change is a Bixby that handles conversational phrasing rather than fixed commands. Samsung's own example: ask "When will my laundry be finished?" and the machine replies with something like "Your laundry is set to finish in two hours and 25 minutes."
Machines fitted with the 7-inch Smart Screen also get a redesigned interface matching Samsung's current laundry models, including a new Easy Mode that strips the layout back to the essentials. It lives under Settings > Display > Control Theme on the appliance screen once the update lands.
The limits worth knowing before you wait for it
This is a phased rollout, and Samsung is explicit that timing, which features arrive, and availability all vary by product, model year and market. Nothing here is guaranteed to reach every eligible machine on the same day, or at all in every country.

- Gemini features carry conditions. Samsung notes that availability, supported functions and accuracy vary by country, language and device model, that users must be 18 or older, and that some results may vary by subscription.
