Valheim Hotfix 1.0.12 Patch Notes: Deep North Armour Repair Fixed, Achievements Opt-In Added
Iron Gate shipped two Valheim hotfixes on 11 September 2026, two days after the Viking survival game left early access. Patch 1.0.10 goes out on every platform and finally lets you repair the heavy armour set you grind for in the Deep North, while patch 1.0.12 is a larger Steam-only round of fixes covering the Forge of Potential, item stands and a zone-loading crash.

The split matters. Valheim 1.0 launched on 9 September across PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, at a price that rose from $19.99 to $29.99 at the 1.0 launch. Iron Gate says the 1.0.12 fixes are fully crossplay compatible and will reach the other platforms in a follow-up hotfix, so a Steam player on 1.0.12 can still join a friend on a console build.
What the Valheim hotfix 1.0.12 patch notes change on Steam
- The Forge of Potential no longer unlocks recipes it was never meant to unlock.
- Items on armour stands and item stands no longer lose durability and upgrade level — but only in worlds that have not yet been loaded into 1.0.
- A crash that fired when a player entered a zone the game had not loaded yet is fixed.
- Ban lists and whitelists accept old-style Steam IDs again (Steam_123456789), not just the newer V_123456789 format.
- A pop-up now tells you when achievements have been re-enabled after being temporarily switched off.
- Carts fit through the Timberwood Drawbridge more easily.
- Jotun Puffs and Magecaps no longer look pickable once they have been picked.
What patch 1.0.10 fixes on PS5, Xbox and Switch 2
The cross-platform half of the release is shorter but covers the complaint that dominated the first 48 hours after launch: the endgame armour you build in the Deep North could not be repaired at all.
- Deep North heavy armour can now be repaired.
- Greydwarf Shamans in the Deep North deal and heal the intended amounts, rather than scaling wildly.
- Punching no longer clears snow, and landing on snow removes it even if you do not walk off the spot.
- Several Deep North creatures and the snow itself have updated sound effects.
Read the item stand warning before you touch your storage
This is the part worth acting on. Iron Gate says the item stand fix only protects worlds that have not been loaded since the 1.0 update went live. If you have already played 1.0 in a world, the studio is explicit that a better fix is still being worked on, and it advises against pulling high-level items — fish, weapons, armour — off item stands without taking a backup first.
Practically, that means copying your world save before you start redecorating a longhouse full of trophies. Back up first, rearrange second.
Achievements now have an opt-in for devcommands and mod users
Valheim added achievements in 1.0, and players who had ever typed a console command or run a mod found them locked off. Patch 1.0.12 adds a deliberately blunt opt-in: type the devcommand yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway and achievements unlock regardless of your history. Iron Gate left the judgement call to the player rather than policing it, and the change was the most-discussed item on the game's subreddit within hours of the notes going up.
Mod users should still expect friction elsewhere. A Unity engine upgrade shipped with 1.0, and older mods built against the previous version are not guaranteed to load.
Which platforms have which build right now
Steam is on 1.0.12. PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Mac and Linux are on 1.0.10 and will receive the 1.0.12 fixes in a hotfix Iron Gate says it is pushing out as soon as it can. No date has been given for that build, and the studio has not said whether the platforms certify together or individually.
It is a familiar pattern for a survival game the week it goes 1.0 — Wardogs shipped its own launch-day hotfix after a similar rush, and free platform-wide updates like the No Man's Sky Cosmos 7.0 release tend to arrive with the same staggered rollout. Frequently Asked Questions
What does Valheim hotfix 1.0.12 fix?
Patch 1.0.12 fixes the Forge of Potential unlocking recipes it should not, stops items on armour and item stands losing durability and upgrade level in worlds not yet loaded into 1.0, fixes a crash when entering an unloaded zone, and restores old-style Steam IDs in ban lists and whitelists. It also adds an achievements opt-in and makes carts fit through the Timberwood Drawbridge.
Is the Valheim hotfix on PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 yet?
Only partly. Patch 1.0.10 is on every platform, including PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Mac and Linux. Patch 1.0.12 is Steam-only for now, and Iron Gate says it will be extended to the other platforms in a follow-up hotfix without a stated date. Crossplay works normally between platforms on different builds.
How do I get Valheim achievements after using devcommands or mods?
Patch 1.0.12 adds a console command that opts you back in: yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway. Typing it unlocks achievements even if you previously used devcommands or mods. It is Steam-only until the fix reaches the other platforms, and Iron Gate has framed it as the player's own call rather than something it will enforce.
Can Deep North heavy armour be repaired now?
Yes. Patch 1.0.10 makes the Deep North heavy armour set repairable on every platform, which was not possible at the 1.0 launch on 9 September. The same patch also corrects the damage and healing values on Deep North Greydwarf Shamans.
Should I move items off my item stands after the Valheim update?
Not without a backup. Iron Gate says the 1.0.12 fix only covers worlds that have not been loaded since 1.0 went live, and that it is still working on a better fix for worlds already played in 1.0. Copy your world save before removing high-level fish, weapons or armour from item stands.
