What makes Clash Royale “Clash Royale”?
Before you pick a copy, know what you are copying. Per Supercell’s listing and the game’s Wikipedia page:
- A deck of 8 cards. You hold four at a time.
- Elixir. A meter that fills up to 10. Each card costs some.
- Two lanes and three towers. Two small ones and a King tower on each side.
- Short, real-time matches. About three minutes, plus overtime.
- A trophy ladder. You win trophies and move up arenas.
Most copies keep only some of these five. That is why a game that looks like Royale can feel nothing like it. Check the “Format” line in each entry below.

How we checked these games
- On 4 October 2026 we opened each game’s live US Google Play page. We wrote down price, ads label, shop range, score, ratings and update date. Update dates can be one day off, depending on your time zone.
- “Format” comes from the listing’s own words. If a listing says “real-time,” we say so. If it does not, we do not guess.
- We read Supercell’s, Blizzard’s and Rayark’s own announcements for every shutdown claim.
- We read the pages that rank for this search, plus Bing’s results and AI summary. Some still recommend games that are dead or no longer on US Google Play.
- We tested “dead” games by opening their Google Play pages. Dead games return “not found” beside a working control page.
- We played none of these games. Ratings come from Google Play, and PC data from Steam’s public store pages.

Games like Clash Royale on PC and Xbox
Searches like “games like Clash Royale on PC” and “on Steam” are common. The best match we could verify is Minion Masters, the same game as on Android:
- On Steam it is free, for Windows and Mac, with 89% positive reviews from about 65,000 reviews.
- Steam lists it with PvP, 2v2 co-op, in-app purchases and cross-platform multiplayer.
- It is also free on Xbox (Xbox One and Series X|S).
- We did not verify whether phone and PC players can match together, so we do not claim it.
- Stormbound is also free on Steam, but it is turn-based, so it plays differently from Royale.
Offline and single-player games like Clash Royale
Clash Royale and its direct copies need an internet connection, because you play other people. If you want the tower-and-cards feel with no connection, these are the closest we could verify. Their own listings say they work offline:
| Game | Price | Stars (ratings) | Updated | What the listing says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kingdom Rush Frontiers | $1.99 | 4.80 (196K) | 15 Oct 2025 | Listing: “an action-packed offline tower defense game.” |
| Kingdom Rush Vengeance | $4.99 | 4.70 (107K) | 11 Mar 2026 | Listing: “offline td strategy game.” |
| Bloons 6 | $6.99 | 4.77 (401K) | 20 Aug 2026 | Listing: “single player offline works even when your WiFi doesn’t.” |
| Slay the Spire | $6.99 | 4.34 (30K) | 20 Jul 2026 | Listing: “the best single player deckbuilder.” |
None of these is a copy of Royale. They are tower defense and deck-building games you play alone.
What is Merge Tactics? Did it replace Clash Mini?
- Merge Tactics is a mode inside Clash Royale. Supercell calls it a “4-player turn-based mode” in its June 2025 update notes.
- It grew out of Clash Mini. Supercell said when it ended Clash Mini that it would bring the experience to Clash Royale.
- It is still going. Supercell posted October changes for Merge Tactics Season 11 on 30 September 2026.
- It does not use lanes or towers, so it will not scratch the same itch as a normal Royale match.
Is Clash Royale pay to win? Which copies say they are not?
- Clash Royale’s shop runs up to $239.99 per item on Google Play.
- Boom Arena’s listing says all cards are the same level and that there is “No pay to win.” That is the developer’s claim. We did not test it.
- Shops in this guide run as high as $299.99 per item (Castle Duels). Turn on purchase approval in Google Play before a child plays.
Famous games that are not Royale copies
These show up on almost every list. They are good games. They just do not play like Royale:
| Game | Why it is not a Royale copy | Stars (ratings) | Updated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marvel Snap | Turn-based cards on three locations | 3.42 (489K) | 8 September 2026 |
| Pokémon TCG Pocket | Collect and battle with Pokémon cards | 4.59 (1.82M) | 10 September 2026 |
| Hearthstone | A classic turn-based card game | 4.11 (2.03M) | 23 September 2026 |
| Stormbound | A board battler. The listing says both “turn-based” and “real-time” | 4.22 (84K) | 2 August 2026 |
| Brawl Stars | Real-time hero shooter, no cards | 4.20 (26.14M) | 4 September 2026 |
| Lords Mobile | A base-builder with guilds, no card decks | 4.48 (9.18M) | 30 September 2026 |
| Clash of Clans | Build a village and raid. See our Clash of Clans guide | 4.52 (61.36M) | 22 September 2026 |
The graveyard: Royale-likes that died or are fading
Dead
- Clash Mini. Supercell’s own board battler. On 14 March 2024 it said it would end development, and the servers were set to begin closing in late April 2024. Supercell said it would bring the Clash Mini idea into Clash Royale. Source: Supercell’s announcement. The idea came back as Merge Tactics (see above). Its Google Play page returns “not found.”
- Soul of Eden. Rayark removed it from app stores and switched off purchases on 1 July 2026, and shut the servers on 31 July 2026. Source: the official announcement. Its Google Play page returns “not found.” Lists written before July still recommend it.
- Gears POP! The Gears of War card battler shut down in April 2021, 9to5Google reported. One list we read still recommends it.
Still live, but fading
- Squad Busters (50,000,000+ installs, last updated 8 December 2025). Supercell says servers will run “somewhere between mid and the end of 2026.” We found no exact closing date. It is a brawler, not a lane game. See Supercell’s FAQ.
- Warcraft Rumble: no new content, per Blizzard. Still updated 16 September 2026.
- South Park: Phone Destroyer: the developers said in June 2022 that new content would end (per Wikipedia), yet it was updated 30 July 2026.
- Spellbinders (3.3 stars): last updated 5 November 2025, almost a year ago.
- Mini Guns: some lists still recommend it. Its Google Play page returned “not found” in our US check, which could be a regional issue, so we left it out.
Is Clash Royale dying? What the data says
People ask this a lot. We can not see player counts. We can see what is public:
- Google Play shows 41.78M ratings at 4.43 stars and 500,000,000+ installs. Last update: 30 September 2026.
- Heroes and a higher card level arrived in the 24 November 2025 update.
- The 10th-anniversary season started on 2 March 2026. The March 2026 update grew Trophy Road to 14,000 trophies (release notes).
- Season 87, Minion Academy, began on 7 September 2026. See our Season 87 guide.
A game that keeps getting seasons and a rebuilt ladder is not abandoned. If you are tired of Royale, though, the games above are a fair break. If you like the village side of Supercell, read games like Clash of Clans.
Who owns Supercell? A Tencent-led group owns about 84% of Supercell, and employees own the rest. Tencent holds 51.2% of that group, per Game Developer.
Bottom line
Install Castle Crush for the closest copy, and Boom Arena if card levels bother you. On a PC, try Minion Masters. With no internet, try Kingdom Rush or Bloons TD 6. Skip anything on an old list that you can not find on Google Play today. Whatever you pick, turn on purchase approval first. Shop prices here run up to $299.99 per item.
