Pokemon SoulSilver Cheat Codes: Action Replay Codes and Emulator Steps (2026)

The Pokemon SoulSilver cheat codes that people use are Action Replay (AR) codes. Add the full code to DeSmuME, melonDS or DraStic, switch cheats on, then press the buttons the code lists. The quickest start is the 900x Medicine pocket code, which includes Rare Candy. Press L + R.

These codes fit the US game (ID IPGE). SoulSilver needs no master code. Back up your save first, because cheats can break it.

How SoulSilver cheats work (and why there is no master code)

Action Replay is Datel’s cheat device for the DS. Emulators read the same code format. Each cheat is a few lines of hex that change the game while it runs. Copy the whole block, or the cheat does nothing.

Here is what the lines mean in plain words:

• First line, such as 94000130 FCFF0000: a button check. This one means L + R.
• 62111880 and B2111880 lines: they point the code at the spot where the game keeps your bag and money.
• D2000000 00000000: ends the code.
• No button line: the code runs all the time.

A master code is a CodeBreaker-style idea. No code in the Code Junkies SoulSilver list starts with one. You do not need to add anything before these codes.

Check your game version first

Action Replay codes are tied to one game version. Code Junkies, the Action Replay maker, lists SoulSilver (US) as game code IPGE and HeartGold (US) as IPKE, each with its own code list. Read the SoulSilver code list if you want to compare.

A DeSmuME developer told one SoulSilver player on the DeSmuME forum that a USA code fails on a European ROM. His advice was to use the codes made for the ROM you have. The emulator version did not matter.

We checked only the US SoulSilver codes. Treat codes for HeartGold, Europe, Japan or other languages as untested. If your copy is not the US release, look for codes made for its own game code.

How to add cheat codes in DeSmuME, melonDS and DraStic

The code is the same everywhere. Only the menus change. Use a dump of a cartridge you own. We do not link to ROMs. Need an emulator first? See our guide to the best DS and 3DS emulators for Android.

DraStic (Android)

1. Open DraStic. Go to Menu → Options → General Settings and turn on Enable Cheats.
2. Start SoulSilver and load your save.
3. Open the DraStic menu while you are in the game and tap Custom Cheats.
4. Add a new cheat, give it a name and paste every line of the code.
5. Tick the cheat, return to the game and press the buttons the code lists.

One player on the DraStic forum found that picking a cheat did nothing until Enable Cheats was on. If DraStic says the cheat format is not valid, the text is not a full Action Replay code. Copy it again.

DeSmuME (Windows, Mac, Linux)

1. Open Config → Control Config and note which keys are L and R.
2. Load SoulSilver.
3. Go to Tools → Cheat → List.
4. Click Action Replay. Paste the code in the Code box and add a name in Description.
5. Click Add, tick the cheat, then hold the buttons the code lists.

melonDS (desktop)

1. Start the game itself, not the DSi menu.
2. Open the System menu and tick Enable cheats.
3. Open System → Set up cheat codes.
4. Click New category, select it, then click New AR code.
5. Rename the code, paste it into the AR code box and click OK.

The melonDS forum adds two tips from its admin. Check that cheats are enabled in the System menu. Some Pokemon cheats also need a button press in the game. Restart the game to switch a cheat off fully.

RetroArch’s melonDS DS core lists support for RetroArch and native cheats in the Libretro docs. We did not test its menus, so follow the core’s own steps.

Pokemon SoulSilver Action Replay codes (US)

Every code below matched in at least two independent lists. Copy all lines exactly. The press line says which buttons to hold in the game.

900x Medicine pocket, including Rare Candy

Press L + R. This is the code most lists call “900 Rare Candies”. It fills the whole Medicine pocket with 900 of each item, Rare Candy among them. It can overwrite items you already hold there.

Some popular lists print 1250DAA2 in the fifth line. That looks like a typo. The on part and the off part must write to the same address, which is 1205DAA2. Two lists we checked use it in both parts. We could not run the code ourselves.

No random encounters (outdoors)

No button needed. Wild battles stop while you walk outside. Hold A + B when you want an encounter. Caves and buildings are not covered. If the first code fails, try the second.

Easy capture and catch trainer Pokemon

No button needed. The first code makes Poke Balls catch without fail. The second lets you catch a trainer’s Pokemon. Run each as its own cheat.

Shiny wild Pokemon

No button needed. Wild Pokemon appear shiny. Do not breed them. The Project Pokemon forum thread also warns that this code can freeze the game when it runs with the Pokerus, IV, EV or nature codes.

Catch any Pokemon at any level

The wild Pokemon modifier swaps the species of a wild encounter. Almar’s Guides says to save in a different slot before and after, and to turn the code off as soon as you finish. Turn on one code at a time.

Keep your save safe

• Back up the save file first. DraStic keeps in-game saves as a .dsv file named after your ROM, and its FAQ lists the folder /sdcard/DraStic/backup. Copy it somewhere safe.
• Use in-game saves, not savestates. The DraStic FAQ says later DS Pokemon games get picky about saves. It advises savestates only between in-game saves.
• Run one cheat at a time. PokemonCoders and the Project Pokemon thread both warn that stacking codes can cause freezes or crashes.
• Turning a cheat off may not undo it. Per the DraStic FAQ, the change can stay in the game. Save in the game and reset with the cheat off.
• Item codes overwrite. PokemonCoders warns they can make items you already own vanish.
• Walk through walls is the riskiest. The Project Pokemon thread says players ruined saves with it. Never save in an unknown area.

Can cheated Pokemon go to Pokemon HOME?

Do not count on it. Pokemon HOME runs on phones and Switch, and it takes older Pokemon only through Pokemon Bank. Bank gets Gen V Pokemon through Poke Transporter. A SoulSilver Pokemon would first need Poke Transfer into a Gen V game.

Bulbapedia says the Poke Transporter has a legality checker meant to stop Pokemon changed through outside devices, though it is not perfect. HOME also tracks each Pokemon to spot hacked ones. Keep cheated Pokemon in the DS game.

Cheat not working? Fix it in this order

1. Match the version. These codes are for US SoulSilver, game code IPGE.
2. Check cheats are on. DraStic needs Enable Cheats. melonDS needs System → Enable cheats.
3. Check the lines. Paste every line, in order, with no spaces missing.
4. Press the right buttons. Check which keys you mapped to L and R. Some codes use R + B or A + B.
5. Turn off other cheats. Two codes at once can clash.
6. Try another emulator. PokemonCoders reports that some cheats fail in No$GBA and suggests DeSmuME.

Game freezes, crashes or shows a blank screen

Restart the emulator. The DraStic FAQ says to switch cheats off in the options, start the game, then turn the cheats back on one by one. The one that breaks the game is your culprit. If the game still will not load, restore your backup save.

SoulSilver vs HeartGold: what changes for cheats

• Game codes: SoulSilver US is IPGE and HeartGold US is IPKE. Code Junkies lists them separately.
• Shared codes: the Project Pokemon thread calls its US list compatible with both games. We only checked SoulSilver, so test HeartGold codes alone.
• Legendary: Lugia is on the SoulSilver box and Ho-Oh is on HeartGold. The wild modifier can spawn either one.
• Exclusive Pokemon: SoulSilver has Vulpix, Meowth, Teddiursa, Latios and Groudon, among others. HeartGold has Growlithe, Mankey, Phanpy, Latias and Kyogre.

How we checked these codes

We did not play SoulSilver with these codes. We compared sources line by line. Each code here matched in at least two lists from Code Junkies, Almar’s Guides, PokemonCoders, the Project Pokemon forum and Retro Dodo.

• We read what the button and pointer lines do in the open-source melonDS cheat engine.
• We took the menu steps from the DeSmuME forum and Almar’s DeSmuME guide, the melonDS forum, and the DraStic forum and FAQ.
• We fixed one typo that many lists copy, and one label that calls the Medicine pocket code “Rare Candy”.
• We left out the all TMs and HMs code, because the lists we saw disagree on its values.
• We took game facts from Bulbapedia.

Action Replay codes are not supported by Nintendo. Play a dump of a cartridge you own.

Bottom line

Start with the Medicine pocket code and max money. Add the Poke Ball code for Master Balls. Use the wild and level modifiers for a custom team. Keep walk through walls for stuck spots. Back up your save, run one cheat at a time, and turn each one off when you finish.
