Monster Hunter Wilds Character Edits Go Free in 2027, and Paid Vouchers End December 3
Monster Hunter Wilds character edits will become free and unlimited when the Ver. 2 update arrives alongside the Ascendance expansion in 2027, and Capcom will stop selling Character Edit Vouchers on December 3, 2026. The change covers every platform the game is on: PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2 version due on December 4.
Until then, every player gets 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers for free. Anyone who paid for voucher packs in the past also gets a two-pendant thank-you set.

When do Monster Hunter Wilds character edits become free?
Not on December 3. That date only ends voucher sales. The unlimited, no-cost appearance editor ships in the Ver. 2 update that launches with Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, which Capcom still lists only as a 2027 release. There is no exact date yet.
The important detail is that Ver. 2 applies to the base game as well. According to Capcom's notice, you will not need to buy Ascendance to re-edit your hunter for free. Once that update is installed, you can change your hunter's look as often as you like, with no voucher needed.
What changes on December 3
On Thursday, December 3, 2026, Capcom stops distributing Character Edit Vouchers on all platforms. The following items are being withdrawn from sale or distribution:
- Character & Palico Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack
- Character Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack
- Palico Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack
- Character & Palico Edit Voucher: Single Voucher (Free Gift Version and Free Gift Version 2)
- Character Edit Voucher and Palico Edit Voucher: Single Voucher (Free Trial Version)
Vouchers you already own are not wiped on that date. They stay usable right up to the Ascendance release, when the system goes away.
How to get the 10 free vouchers
There is nothing to redeem. Install the game update released on December 3 and 10 Character Edit Vouchers plus 10 Palico Edit Vouchers are added automatically to whatever balance you already have. They are a stopgap, so spend them before Ascendance arrives, because vouchers will stop being used once the free editor is in place.
The Switch 2 edition works differently. It launches on December 4 without any of the voucher products in its store. Instead, every Switch 2 player starts with 10 of each voucher already in their account. Physical pre-orders for that version are open now, and digital pre-orders start on October 19.
Who gets the Special Thank-You Pendant Set
You qualify if you bought any of the three paid packs: the Character & Palico Three-Voucher Pack, the Character Three-Voucher Pack or the Palico Three-Voucher Pack. Free trial and free gift vouchers do not count.
The set contains two weapon pendants, Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar. They are granted automatically after you apply the December 3 update. Capcom has not offered refunds for past voucher purchases, and it says the pendants may be sold separately later, so they are not guaranteed to stay exclusive.
What else is changing with Ascendance
Capcom showed Ascendance at its Tokyo Game Show 2026 presentation, with Teostra and Lao-Shan Lung confirmed. Ver. 2 is also reported to bring several quality-of-life fixes that players have asked for since launch:
- An option to switch back to a HUD layout closer to older Monster Hunter games
- Faster weapon swapping without calling your Seikret
- Changing equipment straight from the item box, without entering a tent
- Numbered monster strength ratings in place of the star system
Capcom has not announced a price for Ascendance. Should you still buy vouchers?
No. With 10 free vouchers arriving on December 3 and unlimited edits coming in 2027, buying a pack now only makes sense if you want to change your look several times before December. Capcom has not said whether packs bought between now and December 3 count toward the pendant set, so do not buy one just for the pendants.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will character edits be free in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Yes. Capcom says the Ver. 2 update, released alongside the Ascendance expansion in 2027, lets players re-edit their hunter's appearance as many times as they want at no cost. The update also applies to the base game.
Do I need Ascendance to get free character edits?
No. Capcom's notice says the character edit change in Ver. 2 applies to the base Monster Hunter Wilds game as well, so owning the expansion is not required.
How do I claim the 10 free character edit vouchers?
You do not need to redeem anything. Install the Monster Hunter Wilds update released on December 3, 2026, and 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers are added to your existing balance automatically.
What happens to character edit vouchers I already bought?
They remain usable until Ascendance launches in 2027. If you paid for any of the three-voucher packs, you also receive the Special Thank-You Pendant Set with the Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar pendants after the December 3 update. Capcom has not announced refunds.
Does the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds have character edit vouchers for sale?
No. The Switch 2 version launches on December 4, 2026 without voucher products. Every Switch 2 player starts with 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers already granted.
