Pokémon HOME version 4.1.0 went live on October 7 after an overnight maintenance window, and it finally connects the app to the Nintendo Switch releases of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Players on Switch can now move Pokémon out of either game and into HOME, then on to newer titles, while the iOS and Android versions of HOME pick up the same update.

The patch also raises the Premium Plan storage cap from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon at no extra cost, and lets Pokémon caught in Safari Balls in Pokémon GO transfer to HOME for the first time.

How Pokémon HOME FireRed and LeafGreen transfers work

FireRed and LeafGreen arrived on the Switch eShop on February 27 as separate digital-only downloads at $19.99 each, with no HOME support at launch. Version 4.1.0 closes that gap. Once you link either game, or both, you can send its Pokémon into HOME boxes and from there into games such as Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A, provided the species is allowed in that game.

There is one rule to understand before you start: transfers are one-way. The Pokémon Company says that a Pokémon moved out of FireRed or LeafGreen cannot return, and Pokémon already in HOME cannot be sent into either game. If you want to keep a team in your Kanto save, leave it there.

  • Update: Pokémon HOME version 4.1.0, released October 7, 2026
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch app, plus the iOS and Android apps
  • Compatible games: Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch
  • Direction: into HOME only, with no return trip
  • Premium storage: 9,000 Pokémon, up from 6,000, at the same price
  • Pokémon GO: Safari Ball Pokémon can now transfer, but they arrive in a Strange Ball

How to get the free Celebi from FireRed and LeafGreen

The most useful part of this update for completionists does not need a single transfer. Once HOME is linked, any Pokémon registered in your FireRed or LeafGreen Pokédex is registered in HOME's National Pokédex automatically.

Complete the Kanto Pokédex in either game and the mobile version of HOME will give you the Mythical Pokémon Celebi as a gift. That means you need the phone app, not just the Switch app, to claim it. The free Basic plan is enough to link games and receive gifts.

Can you transfer Lugia, Ho-Oh and Deoxys?

Yes, if you catch them in your save. The Switch versions hand out the old event items automatically: after you beat the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame, the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket appear in your Key Items pocket. The Mystic Ticket leads to Lugia and Ho-Oh on Navel Rock, and the Aurora Ticket leads to Deoxys on Birth Island.

Those encounters were originally gated behind real-world distribution events in 2004, so this is the easiest route ever to get a FireRed or LeafGreen Deoxys into a modern game.

What changed for Premium Plan and Pokémon GO players

Premium subscribers get 3,000 extra slots without a price change. In the US the plan still costs $2.99 for one month, $4.99 for three months or $15.99 for a year, while the free Basic plan keeps its 30-Pokémon box.

For Pokémon GO players, Safari Ball catches from the Safari Zone events were previously stuck in GO. They can now move through the GO Transporter, though the ball will display as a Strange Ball once they land in HOME. Why Pokémon Bank users should move now

This update lands as the clock runs down on Pokémon Bank. The Pokémon Company has confirmed Bank closes on February 25, 2027 at 7:00 p.m. PST, and transfers from Bank to HOME end with it. If you still have Pokémon from the 3DS era in Bank, move them before that date.

The full transfer rules are posted in the news section of the official Pokémon website.
