Where GBA games legally come from
Emulators are legal. Game files are the line. We do not name ROM sites.
- Dump a cart you own. A GBA reader (GBxCart, similar) copies the ROM from your cartridge to a PC, then to the phone. That is the clean path.
- Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack includes an official GBA library on Switch. It is not Android, but it is the legal way to replay Fusion, Minish Cap, and Mario Advance without a dump. If you already pay for NSO, play there first.
- Wii U Virtual Console is shut. 3DS Ambassador GBA titles are a museum piece. Do not count on Nintendo putting GBA on Play.
Homebrew and legally released demos exist. Fan translations of Mother 3 sit in a grey area we will not walk you through.

Action and Metroidvania
1. Metroid Fusion — best GBA game
Samus, a station, a parasite, a linear path that still feels like Metroid. About eight hours. Runs full speed on anything. The SA-X chases are why people install an emulator. Officially on Switch Online. Dump or NSO, not a random 50 MB file.
Best for: the first dump. Skip if: you only wanted open Super Metroid-style maps — that is Zero Mission plus Super Metroid on SNES cores.
2. Metroid: Zero Mission
A remake of Metroid 1 with a suit that still slaps. Shorter than Fusion, friendlier, great on a phone. Pair it with Fusion. Same NSO story.
3. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow — best Metroidvania on the system
Soma, souls, a castle that is the whole genre. Harmony of Dissonance is weaker. Circle of the Moon is clunkier. Aria is the one. Dawn of Sorrow is DS. Collections on other platforms cover a lot of Castlevania; Aria is still the GBA peak.
4. Wario Land 4
Levels as toys. Passwords, not saves, on original hardware; emulators give you states. Bright, loud, perfect handheld length.
5. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
The RPG that made the Bros. funny. Bros. Attacks need two buttons; a pad helps. Later remake exists on 3DS. The GBA original is still the one people mean.

6. Advance Wars — best tactics, best phone fit
Grid, COs, a campaign that teaches. Touch works. Advance Wars 2 is the richer one if you only dump one. Re-Boot Camp is the Switch remake if you can buy it instead.

Permadeath, lords, a GBA that sold the series in the West. Sacred Stones is the friendlier campaign. Three Houses is not GBA. Heroes is a gacha on Play; different sport.
8. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Ivalice-lite, laws, a clan. The PSP War of the Lions is the deeper FFT; that lives on PPSSPP. FTA is still a full GBA tactics game and it fits a commute.
RPGs and Pokemon
9. Golden Sun & The Lost Age
Djinn, puzzles, a world that looks like a poster. Two cartridges; the story wants both. Long. Small text on a phone is the real complaint. Worth it anyway.
10. Pokemon Emerald

Japan-only on GBA. The unofficial English patch is how most people play. We are not hosting it. If you can read Japanese, dump the cart. If you cannot, know the legal picture is messy. It is still one of the best RPGs on the hardware.
12. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Cards, floors, a story beat you cannot skip in the series. The PS2 remake (Re:Chain) is cleaner. GBA is how it shipped first. Deck combat is an acquired taste.
13. Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town
The cozy farm before Stardew. Official Story of Seasons remakes exist on other platforms. On GBA this is the cart. Native Android farms: Stardew.
Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, party
14. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Ezlo, tiny Link, a sword that still feels good. ALttP also had a GBA port. Minish is the GBA original. NSO again.
15. Super Mario Advance 2: Yoshi’s Island
The GBA port of the SNES classic, plus extras. SMA 3 is Super Mario World. Kart Super Circuit is the real GBA Mario Kart: extra tracks, link races. Dump Super Circuit if you want racing, not a platformer.

Zero is hard action. Battle Network is the RPG with chips. Both are GBA-native identities, not NES ports. Legacy Collections on other platforms exist; dumps still matter for the originals.
19. Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land / Amazing Mirror
Nightmare is a remake of Kirby’s Adventure. Amazing Mirror is co-op friendly. Soft, short, good on touch.
20. Drill Dozer
Rare as a cart, rare on lists, a Nintendo-published oddity with a rumble cart. Emulators ignore rumble. Still a blast of a platformer.
21. Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hand
A solar sensor. On a phone you fake the sun in settings or patches. Atmosphere is the point. Not the first dump. Coolest hardware gimmick on the system.
22. Mario Kart: Super Circuit
SNES tracks plus GBA ones. Link cable is the soul of it. My Boy! local play is why this entry exists next to the single-player racers.
Games that are not GBA
There is no GBA Pokemon Scarlet, GTA, God of War, or Minecraft. Files with those names are DS/3DS/console rips or malware. The GBA Pokemon set is Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen, and the Japan-only Colosseum-adjacent carts. If a 20 MB zip claims to be a 2022 Switch game, delete it.
A GBA cart is 4 MB to 32 MB typically. A 1 GB “GBA ROM” is not a GBA ROM.
Link cable, trades, and Mario Kart
Pokemon trades and Super Circuit four-player need link emulation. My Boy! is still the Android app people use for that. Pizza Boy and Lemuroid are weaker here. Two phones, same Wi-Fi, official instructions in My Boy!’s help. We will not walk through ROM sharing.

How to set up GBA games on Android (legal path)
- Install the emulator, not a “GBA games” APK. Pizza Boy A Basic (
it.dbtecno.pizzaboygba) for GBA only. Lemuroid if you also want Sega. Skip My Boy! Lite from 2019 with ads. Skip any app that ships Fusion inside it. - Get the game file legally. Dump a cartridge you own with a reader (GBxCart and similar). Or play the official GBA library on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. We do not link ROM sites.
- Copy the
.gbainto a folder you pick (Downloads/GBA is fine). Pizza Boy does not include Metroid Fusion. - Open Pizza Boy → scan that folder. Cover art is optional. If the file is 1 GB, it is not a GBA ROM. Real carts are about 4–32 MB.
