Resident Evil Switch 2 File Sizes: RE4 Is 28.9GB, RE2 15.1GB and RE3 12.7GB Ahead of October 16

The Resident Evil Switch 2 file size figures are now on Nintendo's US eShop: Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is 28.9GB, Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition is 15.1GB and Resident Evil 3 is 12.7GB, or about 56.8GB for all three. Capcom's three remakes launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on Friday, October 16, and all three are discounted for pre-order until November 7.

These are native Switch 2 versions, not the cloud-streaming releases that ran on the original Switch. Each listing supports TV, tabletop and handheld mode, HDR output on compatible TVs and Nintendo Switch Online save data cloud, and each is rated M by the ESRB.

How big is each Resident Evil game on Switch 2?

The sizes below come from the install figures on each game's US eShop listing:

• Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition: 28.9GB
• Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition: 15.1GB
• Resident Evil 3: 12.7GB
• All three together: about 56.8GB

That is a little over a fifth of the Switch 2's 256GB of internal storage. Resident Evil 4 alone is almost as big as the other two put together, which makes sense because its Gold Edition bundles the Separate Ways campaign and The Mercenaries mode into the base download.

Expect day-one patches to add to these totals, as they usually do. If your console is already full, any extra storage has to be a microSD Express card. Older microSD cards cannot run Switch 2 games. Resident Evil Switch 2 prices and the pre-order discount

Each game has its own US eShop listing and its own price, and all three are currently reduced:

• Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition: $39.99, down from $49.99 (20% off)
• Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition: $29.99, down from $39.99 (25% off)
• Resident Evil 3: $19.79, down from $29.99 (34% off)

Buying all three at the sale prices costs $89.77, against $119.97 at full price. The listings show the discount ending at 11:59pm Pacific on November 7, three weeks after launch, so you do not have to pre-order to get the lower price. Nintendo's US store lists all three as digital purchases.

What's included in each edition

The editions are not equal, so check before you buy:

• Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition includes the main game, the Separate Ways scenario and The Mercenaries, plus costumes and filters for Leon and Ashley, the Sentinel Nine and Skull Shaker weapons, the original soundtrack swap, an expanded treasure map, and gold and classic attaché cases.
• Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition includes the main game, four extra Claire costumes, three Leon costumes, three Samurai Edge pistol variants and the original soundtrack swap.
• Resident Evil 3 includes the main game and classic outfits for Jill and Carlos. The listing does not include Resident Evil Resistance, the asynchronous multiplayer mode that shipped with the 2020 release on other platforms.

Nintendo's listings do not mention any upgrade path for people who bought the older Resident Evil 2 Cloud or Resident Evil 3 Cloud versions on the original Switch. Treat these as separate purchases unless Capcom announces otherwise.

Which Resident Evil games are already on Switch 2?

The October 16 batch brings the Capcom line-up on Switch 2 to six games. Resident Evil Requiem ($69.99), Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition ($39.99) and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition ($49.99) launched on February 27, and a bundle of 7 and Village sells for $59.99. The Nintendo store also has a placeholder page for a game called Resident Evil Veronica, but there is no price or real release date on it yet, so treat it as unconfirmed.
