Android Hire Verdict — The foldable iPhone, priced like one
iPhone Duo is the most significant new iPhone shape since the original, and Apple has clearly spent the engineering budget on hinge feel, titanium, and making iOS 27 feel like one phone rather than a tablet glued to a cover. At $1,999 it has to beat the Galaxy Z Fold8 at $1,899 and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold at $1,799 on software and cameras, not on inner-screen size. Pre-order it if you want Apple's foldable and can wait until 23 October; otherwise the 18 Pro Max is the safer flagship this month.

Apple iPhone Duo in depth
Two displays, one aspect ratio
Closed, Duo is passport-sized with a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR that Apple says is 90% of the 18 Pro's screen area. Open, the 7.6-inch inner panel is 50% larger than the 18 Pro Max. Both share the same aspect ratio, so Home Screen pages, videos and documents scale instead of letterboxing.
The inner panel uses a nano-texture finish to cut glare and hide the crease, 3000 nits peak, ProMotion and Always On. A FaceTime camera sits under the inner glass and only appears when needed. iOS 27 moves Lock Screen controls, the Dock and the status bar to the side to keep vertical space for content, and can show two Home Screen pages plus Today View when open.
Cameras that only work because it folds
The rear pair is a 48MP Fusion Main (with a 2x optical-quality crop) and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. There is no dedicated 4x telephoto. The cover display becomes a viewfinder for rear-camera selfies, Duo Preview lets the subject see framing, Smart Take uses on-device models to fire when people are posing, and Kid Cue plays Peanuts animations on the cover to get children looking at the lens.
Video includes 4K120 Dolby Vision on the main camera, cinematic effects after capture up to 60fps, and 4K Dolby Vision time-lapse. Because Duo stands on its hinge, Apple is pitching tripod-free time-lapses as a foldable-only trick.
Apple iPhone Duo benchmarks
No independent foldable-chassis results yet. A20 Pro should land close to iPhone 18 Pro in burst CPU tests; sustained GPU will depend on the dual-battery thermal path, which Apple has not quantified the way it did for the 18 Pro vapor chamber.
